Shopping around for the right lighting solution for your home or business can take a while, especially if you are looking to start saving money on the monthly electricity bill. As an emerging outdoor lighting tool, LED flood lights have been netting buyers considerable savings over time as well as providing greater brightness integrity than the clunky candescent bulbs of yesteryear. Some shoppers are turned off to the product prices that many LED units go for, but you’re only spending a little more initially. Light-emitting diodes consume less electricity to produce light, so over time your energy bill will slowly reduce to a much lower cost than it was with fluorescent lighting. You can also still use the AC fixtures since LED bulbs come with a rectifier that allows them to run on a DC current.

LED also has some strange facets that may come as a surprise for consumers. In order to produce the highest performance, your flood light will need a good way to vent heat. The bulbs run quite hot and need either a heat sink or other means of temperature regulation if they are being exposed to various weather conditions as flood lights usually are. Some people have complained about the stark difference between the light projected by a traditional bulb and that made by an LED, particularly that some colors are misrepresented because of the phosphor used in the diodes. You may also have trouble producing the exact lighting conditions you want since LED bulbs do not “point” as regular bulbs do, but instead radiate.
